Andrew Wise

Andrew Wise Conductor

Pianist, conductor and composer Andrew Wise started his career on the music staff of the Dutch National Opera, Amsterdam. As chorus master he worked for the Dutch Travelling Opera, then the Flemish opera, Antwerp, and finally for the Royal Theatre, Copenhagen in Denmark. He was chief conductor of the Amsterdam Operetta Company (Hoofdstad Operette) and artistic director of the Dutch Handel Society from 2011 to 2016. At present he is collaborative pianist and vocal coach on the faculty of the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp (Belgium).

Andrew performed as guest conductor with the Flemish Radio Choir, the Danish Radio Choir, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Swedish National Orchestra Academy, the Gothenburg Opera and the Alden Biesen summer opera festival (Belgium). He was guest chorus master at Onafhankelijk Toneel Opera (Rotterdam), Tivoli's Koncerkor (Copenhagen), Glyndebourne Touring Opera, the Middelburg Chamber Choir (the Netherlands) and Cantabile Gent (Belgium). He is principal guest conductor of the Haarlemse Opera (the Netherlands).

Projects in 2018-2019 include preparation of the new production of Tosca for the Dutch Travelling Opera as repetiteur and chorus master, and a new production of Saint-Saëns opera Samson et Dalila, which he will conduct for the festival Leeuwarden Cultural Capital of Europe in November 2018.

Andrew Wise studied music at St. Catharine's College, Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music, London. He holds a master diploma in choral conducting from the Royal Antwerp Conservatoire.
