Alessandro Poleggi

Alessandro Poleggi Since 1998 Alessandro Poleggi has worked as Assistant Conductor and Coach at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. As assistant conductor he prepares and coaches the singers as well as conducts stage and choir rehearsals with both piano and orchestra. During his time in Rome he has had the opportunity to work with some of the most distinguished conductors and singers in the industry: he assisted Riccardo Muti in over eight different productions, (Nabucco, Attila, I due Foscari, Macbeth, Ernani, Nabucco, Simon Boccanegra e Manon Lescaut) and also worked alongside Zoltan Pesko (Le Grand Macabre), Donato Renzetti (Tosca, Rigoletto, Elisir d’amore, Barbiere di Siviglia), Daniele Gatti (La damnation de Faust, Rigoletto, I vespri siciliani, Zaide, Julius Caesar), James Conlon (La dama di Picche, Billy Budd), Wayne Marshall (Candide), Yves Abel (Madama Butterfly, Barbiere di Siviglia), Daniele Rustioni (Trittico Puccini, Macbeth, Falstaff, Attila, I due Foscari), Stefan Soltesz (Die Bassariden), Jesus Lopez Cobos (Un ballo in maschera), to name but a few. While specializing in the Italian Bel Canto and Verismo repertoire, Maestro Poleggi’s expertise expands over the entire operatic repertoire as he has prepared and assisted over 100 operas in his prolific career.

As Coach on the music staff he is in charge of coordinating the rehearsals with the singers, choir and orchestra. Additionally in his past 25 years at the theatre, he regularly represents the artistic administration on the jury for singer and pianist auditions.

His international experience includes working at festivals such as Festival Aix en Provence, where he recently assisted in the new production of Falstaff with staging by Barrie Kosky. Additionally he has worked as music staff at renowned institutions such as Opera de Lyon and Teatro Real di Madrid. On several occasions he has conducted the RSK Orchester with various operas (Tosca, Bohème, Fidelio, Traviata, etc.) as well as symphonic works (Beethoven, Mozart, Dvorak, Wagner, Verdi, Puccni, Donizetti, Rossini, etc.).

Passionate for teaching the next generation, he regularly gives masterclasses and coaches the young singers and pianists of the opera studio of Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
